Learning Objectives

a. This discussion will be made relevant to all of its audience members including those who recently joined the field and those who are seasoned; those who are clinicians and those who conduct research; those who work with youth and those who work with geriatric patients; those who work with veterans and those who work with civilians; and those who work in/with Foundations and other funders (Nielson, NIH, etc.)
b. Consider the pros and cons of working in academic vs. clinical settings and private vs. public settings.
c. How has the insurance industry affected our ability to work effectively with individuals with SCI/D? and how does that affect how we feel as clinicians? Does this contribute to professional burnout?
d. How does the increased difficulty in finding funding for research affect the field of SCI? For the researchers, the clinicians, and for the patients?
e. What does the future hold? In what direction are we headed?
